Adoptions and a Door of Opportunity
By Nancy Quinn
“For thou didst
form my inward
parts. Thou didst
cover me in my
mother’s womb.”
Psalm 139:13
pening the drawer of the night table, she reached for her devotional book. She took the small photo out of the book that served as the bookmark and touched the tiny face as memories of regret briefly washed over her. She wondered what he was doing right now and hoped his life was a happy one. She said a prayer of thanks to the Lord for forgiving her of her past sin and for leading her to make a life-giving choice. Saying a prayer for him, she tenderly put the picture onto the end table and opened her devotional book.
Summer – a time for picnics, vacations and family reunions. However, for the myriads of women who have made a sacrificial choice to give up their babies for adoption, reunions sometimes never take place here on earth. A woman chooses to take the difficult nine month journey to give a child life instead of selfishly snuffing out the tiny miracle from God. Adoption agencies and private adoptions become havens for the mother to choose a loving family to nurture the child as their own if she is unable to keep the baby.
Like ripples in a pond, the choices we make today have the potential to touch many other lives. And if you may know someone who has been touched by the gift of adoption, remember to say a prayer of thanks for those mothers who chose to give a gift of life to a waiting family, and joyfully anticipate a grand reunion someday – whether here or in heaven.
And who knows, God may surprise a mother someday with a reunion here on earth that they never thought could happen. The Lord knows the desires of our hearts, so as we stay patient and positive in prayer, doors of opportunity may open. The Lord sometimes answers prayers in the most unexpected ways!
