Please Don’t Squeeze the Toothpaste from the Middle

By Suellen Fry

"For God so loved
the world, that he
gave his only begotten
Son, that whosoever
believeth in him should
not perish, but have
everlasting life."
John 3:16

I

must have told my son the same thing over one hundred times, “Please don’t squeeze the toothpaste from the middle”. And every morning and each evening how do you think I find the toothpaste? I’ll give you one wild guess. Yep… inevitably I find the toothpaste in a deformed state, twisted and turned from the middle of the tube. You may be wondering where I am going with this, well, sit tight because I do have a point!

How many times has our Father in Heaven told us how we should do something? And you know He probably repeated himself at least one hundred times. And what did we do? We do exactly as my little guy does every day. We twist the tube of toothpaste directly in the middle.

Looking back on my life, I realize that Jesus gave me precise instructions on how to live my life and I chose either not listen, or directly disobeyed Him. Why? Isn’t my Savior all knowing? So why would I choose to do my will and not the Lord’s?

I’m not sure I even have the answer to that one. Except that I must have had a momentary mental relapse. I must have forgotten about an omnipotent God who wanted to show the world how much He loved them!

So He formed himself into an earthly man and chose to live in this world for 33 years. He chose to be born a carpenter’s son. He had no formal education and walked the streets for 3 years trying to show people the love of His Father; then he was beaten beyond recognition, spat on, denied by his closest friends and finally died a horrible death, nailed to a cross, so that we would not perish.

Today as I noticed that same tube of toothpaste neatly twisted from the middle, I thought about the love of Christ. As many times as I chose not to listen and walk in my ways, He still had compassion and love for me, His child.

So I chose to be a more compassionate parent. As I picked up the tube of toothpaste, I gently untwisted the tube and straightened it out. Just like my Lord has done for me a thousand times over. He has untwisted and straightened me out!

As I left the bathroom and turned off the light, I thanked God for my new found prospective. I thanked Him for showing me how to be more loving and compassionate toward my child just as He has been towards me.

I thought of this man called Jesus who bled for me over 2000 years ago, just so I could spend an eternity in Heaven with him …one day. Maybe today I could try and remember how to squeeze my tube of toothpaste for the one man who died for me!

Thank you Jesus!

Heart of God International Ministries

JournEzine is just one of the many outreaches of Heart of God International Ministries.  This ministry reaches beyond our borders into third world countries, spreading the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ into regions where no one else dares to go.

Heart of God International Ministries is a family of ministries devoted to encouraging, strengthening, and building the Body of Christ.  Like any "family", all aspects of Heart of God International Ministries work together with one another for a common cause ... seeing the Kingdom of God established in the hearts and homes of people across the globe and seeking out to reach the lost, wherever and whoever they might be.

Our purpose is to bring unity to the Body of Christ, so that we might truly be “one” as Jesus prayed: “My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one: I in them and you in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.” (John 17:20-23)

And, as “one” in Him, our goal is to build and strengthen the Kingdom of God one heart at a time.  We believe it takes individuals who are strong in the Lord to make strong families, strong communities, strong churches, and strong influences in the earth today.

We do not seek to bring division or draw away from the local church, but to nurture believers so they will become strong leaders in their respective churches.  We do this in many ways including Bible Studies, Seminars, Retreats, Online Ministry, JournEzine (our online magazine), International Evangelism (we organize missions trips, train the team members, and lead them on life-changing trips into regions of the world where the Gospel is literally unheard and people are hungry and thirsty for the Truth), Publications, and more.

Heart of God International Ministries has recently broadened its influence to include Soldiers Bible Ministry and Christian Military Wives as partners in the dynamic ministry to the military and their families.
