Just Half The Man
By Clarence Sonny White
As time goes on and memory goes back
It seems only yesterday
I stood in Dad's old work shoes
In a little boy's game of play.
Dad would laugh, hug me tight
And say, Son, it's in God's plan,
But, it takes a few years and a lot of work
For a boy to be a man.
It was Dad, who taught me about God,
Took me to Church each week
It was Dad who knelt with me each night
As we prayed our souls to keep.
He made me proud to be his son,
Never brought the family shame
In the words of simple Country folks
Mr. White had a very good name.
I recall his teachings thru the years
He practiced what he preached
Not what he said, but what he did
This young man's heart he reached.
Time has flown, Dad passed on
To join God's Heavenly band
Dear Lord I almost twice his size,
Help me be just half the man.
